Chelsea vs PSG predictions

Only a few months ago Paris Saint-Germain had a reputation for being flat-track bullies, flexing their muscles in France but falling short when it mattered on the continent.

But the French side have not looked back since winning the Champions League and they can lift a fourth major trophy of the season by defeating Chelsea in Sunday's Club World Cup final.

PSG's reputation changed overnight after their spectacular 5-0 success over Inter at the Allianz Arena on May 31.

The Parisian superpowers produced one of the best performances ever seen in a major European final against the Nerazzurri and demanding manager Luis Enrique was never going to allow them to stop there.

One of the remarkable aspects of that memorable night in Munich was the demeanour of Enrique, who continued to drive his players on long after the outcome was beyond any doubt.

Enrique demands his players operate at the highest level whenever they step onto the pitch and his personality has been imprinted all over PSG's performances at the Club World Cup.

Many teams would have taken a mental and physical breather after scaling such heights but PSG have kept their foot on the gas and have fully justified their status as pre-tournament favourites.

However, concentration levels will need to stay high because Chelsea also have a taste for silverware.

The Blues had a decent Premier League season, clinching Champions League qualification with a 1-0 triumph at Nottingham Forest, and swiftly followed that vital City Ground success by beating Real Betis 4-1 in the Conference League final.

Chelsea always had one eye on delivering a strong challenge at the Club World Cup and they have taken full advantage of some favourable fixtures in the US.

Enzo Maresca's side finished behind Brazilian Serie A leaders Flamengo in Group D, but it worked in the Londoners' favour as they landed in the softer half of the draw.

The Blues have been pitted against another pair of Brazilian teams – Palmeiras and Fluminense – in the quarter and semi-finals, and they were the better side on each occasion, winning 2-1 and 2-0.

Summer arrival Joao Pedro came into the squad for those matches and the former Brighton man made a massive impact with a match-winning double against Fluminense.

Pedro could even get the nod over Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson in Sunday's final at the MetLife Stadium and may cause a few problems for a PSG defence weakened by William Pacho's suspension.

However, while Chelsea have every chance of scoring for a tenth successive game, their defence may struggle to cope against a PSG team at the peak of their powers.

PSG's run to the final has featured three 4-0 wins, including their stunning semi-final demolition of Real Madrid on Wednesday, and they are playing close to the level which propelled them to Champions League glory.

Chelsea have done well to reach the final but they may receive a stark reminder of just how far they still need to go from the best team on the planet right now.

Chelsea vs PSG bet builder predictions

Ousmane Dembele to score any time

The 28-year-old is playing some of the best football of his career and could be the man to break Chelsea hearts in New Jersey.

Enzo Fernandez to be shown a card

Injury concerns over Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia have increased the responsibility on Fernandez, who may feel the need to up the ante with some tough tackling.

Over 2.5 goals

PSG are excelling in attack but they are below full strength at the back and may need to score more than once to get their hands on the trophy.
