Benfica vs Bayern Munich predictions

Bayern Munich were the first Club World Cup team to secure their last-16 place and the German champions are unlikely to ease up in their final Group C fixture against Benfica.

A draw would be mutually beneficial, sealing top spot for Bayern and confirming Benfica's qualification for the knockout stages.

However, the Portuguese giants have had a difficult few weeks and they may struggle to avoid a sixth straight defeat to Bayern.

Jamal Musiala scored the decisive goal when the teams met in the Champions League in November and, although the brilliant midfielder is a fitness doubt for this game, Bayern should prove too strong once again.

They started their Club World Cup campaign with a 10-0 rout of Auckland City, in which Musiala came off the bench to score a 16-minute hat-trick.

Bayern were 4-0 up inside 21 minutes but Auckland kept out Benfica until the seventh minute of first-half injury-time, when Angel Di Maria's penalty rescued Benfica-Benfica double-result backers.

Bruno Lage's men were pipped by rivals Sporting in the Primeira Liga title race and the Portuguese Cup final, losing 3-1 in extra-time.

They battled back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with nine-man Boca Juniors on matchday one, when veteran centre-back Nicolas Otamendi scored at both ends.

Benfica's Andrea Belotti was also sent off in the final 20 minutes of that battle while left-back Alvaro Carreras is suspended and manager Lage had a spectacular row with Orkun Kokcu after the midfielder's substitution against Auckland.

Bayern appear to have a far happier camp, having regained their Bundesliga title in Vincent Kompany's first season.

Star forward Harry Kane gave them an early lead against Boca on Saturday although they needed an 84th-minute winner from the in-form Michael Olise.

After losing to Inter in the Champions League quarter-finals, Bayern look like serious contenders for the Club World Cup and they should complete a perfect Group C campaign.
