Classy Tottenham inflict first competitive defeat on Chelsea

Tottenham inflicted a first competitive defeat of the season on London rivals Chelsea and leapfrogged them in the Premier League table with a thrilling 3-1 win at Wembley.

Strikes from Dele Alli and Harry Kane gave Spurs a 2-0 cushion after just 16 minutes before a superb solo effort from South Korean star Heung-Min Son early in the second half wrapped up the victory.

Olivier Giroud grabbed a late consolation but the Blues could muster just two shot on target and were ultimately outclassed, seeing their title odds more than double from 17-1 to 35-1 with Betfair.

Spurs are 33-1 with Hills to be crowned Premier League champions and as short as 2-9 to record a top-four finish for the fourth season on the spin.

It was the sixth time in nine games at Old Trafford that United had failed to oblige with Jose Mourinho’s men costing favourite backers at odds of 4-9.

After 13 games, the Red Devils find themselves seventh, possessing a negative goal difference, and 14 points behind pace-setting rivals City.

United are out to 9-2 with bet365 to post a top-four finish, while the hard-fought point jumped Palace up to 15th. The Eagles are now 11-2 for the drop.

Claudio Ranieri’s arrival at Craven Cottage had an immediate impact as Fulham came from behind to beat relegation rivals Southampton 3-2.

Elsewhere, a late Jamie Vardy penalty earned Leicester a 1-1 draw at Brighton, while Everton leapfrogged United to move sixth with a hard-fought 1-0 win over third-bottom Cardiff, who are 4-9 to be relegated.
