Team news
Salzburg
Albert Vallci, Zlatko Junuzovic, Bernardo, Sekou Koita, Ousmane Diakite and Benjamin Sesko are all out for this one.
Bayern Munich
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (knee) is out for several weeks, joining Leon Goretzka, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala on the sidelines.
Match preview
Bayern Munich suffered a shock 4-2 Bundesliga defeat to Bochum on Saturday but should have the firepower to bounce straight back when they head to Salzburg for the first leg of this Champions League last-16 tie.
The German champions conceded four goals in the first half for the first time since 1975 against Bochum and they have kept just one clean sheet in their last five matches.
Defender Niklas Sule has announced that he will sign for Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season and goalkeeping mainstay Manuel Neuer is out injured, so Bayern's backline doesn’t appear the most harmonious or settled.
However, for all their defensive issues, Bayern should have more than enough going forward to overcome Salzburg.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side have scored 31 goals in their last ten games in all competitions and netted 22 times in six Champions League Group E matches as they claimed maximum points.
Robert Lewandowski already has nine goals in this year’s competition and is as short as 1-3 to score at any time in this game.
For the hosts, all eyes will be on young German Karim Adeyemi. The 20-year-old spent two years in Bayern Munich's youth system and could come back to haunt them by scoring at any time.
Adeyemi has scored 14 goals in 18 Austrian Bundesliga games this season and has added another three in this competition. He made his debut for Germany's national team in September and Bayern’s rivals Dortmund have been strongly linked with bringing him back to his homeland in the summer.
Adeyemi featured from the bench when these two sides met twice in last year’s Champions League group stage, matches in which Bayern ran out 6-2 and 3-1 winners, and a similar scoreline is fancied when they clash again.
Key stat
The aggregate score of last season's two meetings between these sides was 9-3 in favour of Bayern Munich.
