Match preview
Manchester City enjoyed proving their doubters wrong with a masterclass at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and they can show their quality for a second time by beating Paris Saint-Germain.
Pep Guardiola's side are at the mid-point of an ultra-demanding run of away games - they face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday - but they could not have got off to a better start.
They thoroughly deserved maximum points at Chelsea after putting on an assured display which will have sent out a strong message to domestic and European rivals.
It was a team performance, full of energy, intelligence and quality although it was enhanced by the availability of a few key individuals.
Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden were outstanding on their first Premier League starts of the season and the defence looked solid with the returning Aymeric Laporte alongside Ruben Dias.
City's bench looked stronger than in recent weeks and included John Stones, who is knocking on the door for a first club appearance of the campaign.
When City play with such intensity they are hard for any team to live with and PSG could be their next victims.
Mauricio Pochettino's side extended their 100 per cent record in Ligue One to eight games with a routine 2-0 success at home to Montpellier on Saturday, but they are under pressure in the Champions League after a 1-1 draw at Bruges.
The Parisian club have committed massive finances into assembling arguably the best attack in world football but their illustrious front three – Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar – are yet to perform at anything close to their full potential.
None of them managed to score against Bruges and Messi is battling to recover from a knee injury which has ruled him out of the last two league games.
Having such an array of quality forwards could be seen as a manager's dream but it brings added pressure.
With Messi becoming more injury prone and Mbappe going through the final year of his contract, there is a sense of desperation about PSG's quest to satisfy their long-held appetite for European glory.
However, while individual quality will almost certainly be enough to win them the French title, it does not guarantee success at the very highest level.
The really big games tend to be settled by fine margins and attention to detail, and City's greater focus and discipline mark them down as the likelier winners.
