Match preview

Only once in the 13 years since Sheikh Mansour took over Manchester City have the club made the Champions League last four but this week they can go one step further by reaching their first final of Europe's premier club tournament.

The Citizens have developed a reputation for crumbling in the competition's latter stages, failing to make it beyond the Champions League quarter-finals in each of the last four seasons.

And only 15 minutes into the first leg of their semi-final with PSG last week, it seemed like a case of here we go again.

But City recovered from the French outfit's blistering start and showed the kind of maturity and composure which has been lacking in these games in recent seasons.

Thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez, Pep Guardiola's men managed to leave the Parc des Princes with two away goals and a slender advantage, while the hosts lost Idrissa Gueye to a red card.

City took the game by the scruff of its neck and it would be a bold move to oppose them in the second leg at the Etihad, where they have won all five of their Champions League home games this term, conceding only two goals in the process.

Remarkably for this stage of the season and given City's long involvement in all four competitions, Guardiola has a fully fit squad at his disposal and a not-so-secret weapon in attack in Sergio Aguero, who looks eager to conclude his City career on a high note.

Although City were winners over Crystal Palace at the weekend, they have long had the luxury of rotating players for Premier League games with the title as good as in the bag for some time.

PSG, though, are still in the thick of a tight title tussle in Ligue 1 and given they allowed Lens 15 shots in their latest league endeavour, they may lack the stamina to keep City at bay - especially when the onus is on them to attack.

The Parisians should not be taken lightly given they knocked out Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the previous rounds but they were far from solid in either of those ties.

Against Barcelona they allowed 33 shots over two legs before conceding 45 efforts in their games with Bayern and they again looked permeable when allowing City back into the game last week.

Mauricio Pochettino's men simply have to attack this game and that is only going to leave them more open so punters should take the simple option and back City to earn an historic victory.

Key stat

PSG have won one of their last four Champions League matches.
