Inter vs Bayern Munich predictions

Bayern Munich were the last Champions League visitors to beat Inter at San Siro and they must repeat that feat in order to reach this season's semi-finals.

A late breakaway goal from substitute Davide Frattesi earned Inter a vital 2-1 win in the quarter-final first leg in Munich and they are 1-3 to qualify from the tie.

The Nerazzuri's home record in Europe since their 2-0 group-stage loss to Bayern in September 2022 is certainly formidable.

They have won 12 and drawn two of their 14 matches, keeping 11 clean sheets, and Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal are among the teams beaten to nil at San Siro.

Inter have conceded only three times in 11 Champions League matches this season but two of those goals came in their last two games - the 2-1 win in Munich and a 2-1 home victory over Feyenoord in the last-16 second leg.

Simone Inzaghi's side faced seven shots on target at Bayern, whose striker Harry Kane clipped the outside of the post with a great chance at 0-0.

The visitors will have to take risks to overturn a first-leg deficit and Inter's defensive standards have slipped a little recently so it could be worth backing over 3.5 goals in 90 minutes.

Both teams are top of their domestic leagues. Inter average 2.25 goals per game in Serie A and Bayern have scored 83 times in 29 Bundesliga matches – 20 more than any other team in the division.

The second leg at San Siro represents a huge test of Vincent Kompany's credentials as Bayern manager. 

This time last year, Kompany's Burnley were heading for Premier League relegation and his Bayern side suffered league-phase defeats at Aston Villa, Barcelona and Feyenoord before scraping past playoff-round opponents Celtic.

They were impressive 5-0 aggregate winners over German champions Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16 but Kompany is missing several senior players including goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala and defenders Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano and Hiroki Ito.

Bayern's depleted defence was breached twice in the home leg against Inter. Marcus Thuram's deft backheel was brilliantly finished by strike partner Lautaro Martinez but Frattesi's winner, just a couple of minutes after Thomas Muller had equalised, was a real sucker punch.

Six of Bayern's last seven Bundesliga games have produced over 3.5 goals, including Saturday's 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund, while Inter won their last four home matches by 3-2, 2-1, 2-1 and 3-1 scorelines.
