Wednesday's Champions League predictions

Qarabag vs Copenhagen

Qarabag's Champions League campaign began with an extraordinary 3-2 victory away to Benfica, where they went off as 14-1 underdogs.

The Azerbaijani champions were any price you liked after going 2-0 down inside 16 minutes but they rallied superbly, running out worthy winners.

Copenhagen kicked off the league phase with a creditable 2-2 draw at home to Bayer Leverkusen, who equalised through an injury-time own goal, and backing both of these confident sides to score looks a good bet.

Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain

Qarabag against Copenhagen may be the glamour tie of the night but don't overlook Barcelona's clash with Paris Saint-Germain on the undercard.

Sadly, PSG's early-season injury crisis has taken some of the gloss off this contest. Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele, captain Marquinhos and key attackers Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue are sidelined and midfield aces Joao Neves, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz face fitness tests.

Barca have their own issues as Raphinha, Fermin Lopez and Gavi are injured, but brilliant winger Lamine Yamal, who missed the 2-1 win at Newcastle on matchday one, should start.

Hansi Flick's men impressed in their victory at St James' Park and, having scored 24 goals in seven home Champions League matches last term, they should be too sharp for the wounded holders.

Bayer Leverkusen vs PSV Eindhoven

PSV Eindhoven were outclassed by Belgian champions Union Saint-Gilloise in a 3-1 home defeat on matchday one but Wednesday's hosts Bayer Leverkusen are also hard to trust.

They dropped points at Copenhagen in their opening game and scraped past St Pauli 2-1 at the weekend – the sixth straight Leverkusen game in which both teams scored.

Borussia Dortmund vs Athletic Bilbao

Borussia Dortmund shared a thrilling 4-4 draw with Juventus on matchday one but their home fixture against Athletic Bilbao should be a very different type of game.

Athletic have lost four of their last five matches by either a 1-0 or 2-0 scoreline and they posed a limited attacking threat in their 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal.

Inspirational winger Nico Williams has not travelled to Germany while Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy, the joint-top scorer in last season's Champions League, should be fit.

BVB have won their last four Bundesliga matches to nil and they can showcase their defensive qualities once again on matchday two.

Napoli vs Sporting

Kevin De Bruyne, Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund's hopes of a triumphant return to Manchester with Napoli were dashed by an early red card for their teammate Giovanni Di Lorenzo against Manchester City.

The Italian champions had just one shot to City's 23 in their 2-0 defeat and they face a tricky game against Sporting, who eased to a 4-1 win over Kairat Almaty in their opener.

Villarreal vs Juventus

Villarreal lost 1-0 to Tottenham on matchday one after a fourth-minute own goal from their keeper Luiz Junior. They have ground out three narrow wins in La Liga since then and can expect a competitive contest against unbeaten Juventus.

The Turin giants rode their luck in the 4-4 draw with Dortmund, scoring twice in injury-time, but in-form winger Kenan Yildiz should cause problems for Villarreal's Santiago Mourino.

Right-back Mourino has been booked in three of his last six games, including the loss at Spurs, and Yildiz is full of confidence after a goal and an assist against BVB.
