Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona predictions

Ruthless Barcelona showed why they are favourites for this season’s Champions League with a 4-0 rout of Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their quarter-final and they can put some gloss on the scoreline with a repeat victory at Signal Iduna Park.

The Catalan giants have not looked back since losing 2-1 to Monaco on matchday one of this season’s Champions League, winning nine and drawing one of their subsequent ten European encounters.

Hansi Flick’s side have racked up 36 goals in their 11 Champions League fixtures, which includes a 3-2 victory away at Dortmund in the league phase in December, and in Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski have a frontline who are wreaking havoc on opposing defences.

Tricky Brazilian Raphinha has had 19 goal involvements in the competition this term to equal a club record set by Lionel Messi in the 2011-12 Champions League campaign.

There is potential for Flick to make some changes to his starting line-up, but Barcelona are on a 24-game unbeaten run and won’t want to lose that, especially as confidence could be key as they bid to convert their four-point lead at the top of La Liga.

Dortmund will be well aware that they face an almost impossible task and they have been a shadow of the side who were able to make last season’s Champions League final.

BVB are only eighth in the Bundesliga and their supporters will be expecting some sort of response to last week’s capitulation in which Barcelona had 18 shots, ten of them on target.

However, Niko Kovac’s side created goalscoring chances of their own, having 13 shots with an expected-goals figure of 1.29, and they were able to score twice in defeat at home to Barcelona in December.

Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Bundesliga leaders Bayern suggests they should be more competitive than in the opener and Barcelona have been breached in eight of their last nine Champions League away games, which includes this season’s trips to Monaco, Red Star Belgrade and Benfica.

Dortmund’s desperation for goals could also contribute to them being picked off by Barca, who have won 13 of their last 15 away games and always back themselves to outscore the opposition.
