Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid preview
Real Madrid's 5-1 aggregate victory over Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16 looks an increasingly impressive result but that might be as good as it gets for Real in Europe this season.
City paid a huge compliment to that form by beating Arsenal 2-0, Liverpool 4-0 and Chelsea 3-0 in their next three games.
However, Real were brought down to earth by last week's 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the home leg of their quarter-final tie and overturning that deficit at the Allianz Arena will not be easy.
Bayern were good value for their victory in Madrid, where goals from Luis Diaz and Harry Kane either side of half-time put them in charge.
Kylian Mbappe's 74th-minute strike – his 14th in ten Champions League appearances this term – has given Real a foothold in the tie but they face a delicate balancing act in Munich.
Chasing an equaliser means space should open up for an outstanding Bayern attacking unit featuring Kane, Diaz, Michael Olise and either Serge Gnabry or Jamal Musiala.
Kane, who had been a doubt for the first leg, was rested for the weekend Bundesliga fixture at St Pauli but Bayern still eased to a 5-0 win.
Vincent Kompany's men had conceded in seven of their previous eight victories, though, and backing Bayern to win and both teams to score looks a good bet.
Real pose a huge goal threat through Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, Arda Guler, the fit-again Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde, who scored a first-half hat-trick in the home leg against City.
But their last three La Liga results were a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid, a 2-1 defeat at Mallorca and Friday's 1-1 draw at home to Girona and those defensive deficiencies may well be exposed by a brilliant Bayern side.
Olise's booking odds make plenty of appeal
France winger OIise has been at the heart of Bayern's success this term, contributing 15 goals and 24 assists in just 37 Bundesliga and Champions League appearances.
However, he has also received more league bookings than any other Bayern player – seven – and is an eye-catching price to collect his fourth caution of the European campaign.
Laimer could find himself in trouble early on
Bayern are not a team who allow themselves to be bullied and uncompromising full-back Konrad Laimer is worth backing to be the first player booked in tonight's heavyweight bout.
The Austria international was cautioned in the 19th minute at St Pauli – his sixth Bundesliga booking in 19 starts – and he could be caught out by Real's pacy forwards.
