Team news

Cardiff
Joe Ralls (groin) is a doubt and Sean Morrison (broken wrist), Isaac Vassell (thigh) and Robert Glatzel (hamstring) are out. Danny Ward starts a three-game ban but Armand Traore has arrived on a short-term deal.

Bristol City
Josh Brownhill (back) is a doubt and Famara Diedhiou completes a three-game ban. Benik Afobe (knee), Jack Hunt (hamstring) and Jay Dasilva (broken leg) are out and Adam Nagy (ankle) and Korey Smith (foot) are lacking match fitness.

Match preview

Cardiff flopped in their showdown against Swansea, going down 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium, but they might fare better in the Severnside derby at home to Bristol City.

Wily Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock is an expert in getting teams promoted to the Premier League but has found it tough to make sustained headway this season.

Injuries haven't helped Cardiff, who will be far from full-strength with captain Sean Morrison and first choice centre-forward Robert Glatzel among the absentees.

However, Warnock's warriors have been piling up the points at the Cardiff City Stadium with five wins, two draws and no defeats and they went into the weekend with the second-best home record in the Sky Bet Championship.

Visiting teams know they are in for a physical battle and Bristol City may lack the power to cope.

They look lightweight up front with Stoke loanee Benik Afobe injured and Famara Diedhou suspended and they could be severely under-strength in midfield if captain Josh Brownhill fails to recover from the back spasm which has troubled him all week.

Lee Johnson's side have suffered just two defeats all season but they looked vulnerable defensively in recent road trips to Luton (lost 3-0) and Barnsley (drew 2-2) and could be found wanting in one of their toughest matches of the campaign.

Key stat

Bristol City have not kept a clean sheet in nine away games this season.
