Any confidence Simba took from their 3-0 win over JS Saoura on the opening matchday of the CAF Champions League evaporated after successive 5-0 maulings to Vita Club and Al Ahly in their following group fixtures.

They have conceded the most goals in the competition and even a depleted Al Ahly should brush them aside with ease in the reverse meeting between the sides.

Simba are evidently out of their depth in the continental competition, where their tally of ten goals conceded after three matches is double the number of goals they have shipped after 15 Tanzanian Premier League fixtures.

Egyptians Al Ahly were without nine first-team players in their victory at home to Simba and still appear overpriced even with defender Saad Samir and forward Ahmed Hamoudi joining their long list of absentees.

The visitors have made the final of this competition two years running and know what the Champions League is all about, having topped a group featuring eventual winners Esperance de Tunis last season.

They have won their last five games in all competitions and coach Martin Lasarte appeared unfazed by his team's many casualties.

He said: “Some players will miss the game due to injuries, but we still have players in the same position who achieve our tactics.”

Simba were hard-pressed in their first-round tie with Nkana before the group stage, needing to fight back from a 2-1 loss in the first leg, and their inferiority could show again.

Recommendation
Al Ahly
