Ligue 1 6.30pm Wednesday

Nantes lost their first match since former player Emiliano Sala's death on an emotionally-charged afternoon against Nimes but a visit to Caen is an assignment they will believe they can win.

League successes have evaded the visitors of late but they can take confidence from some solid cup performances.

Nantes have seen off Entente and Toulouse without conceding to set up a French Cup quarter-final clash with Vitre.

But they are winless in five Ligue 1 fixtures, conceding four second-half strikes to Nimes to surrender a two-goal lead established by forwards Kalifa Coulibaly and Abdul Majeed Waris last time out.

Nimes have exceeded expectations in this campaign, though, and Caen are unlikely to put up such a fight against Vahid Halilhodzic's men.

The hosts missed their chance to take the spoils in a six-pointer with out-of-sorts Amiens, losing 1-0 in their previous game, which extended their run of defeats to four games.

Testing times on and off the pitch have drawn Nantes into a relegation battle but they appear too strong a unit to go down, having beaten Marseille, held Lyon and thumped basement side Guingamp 5-0 this season.

Crucial to their chances of survival is a tight defence, which is bettered only by that of Bordeaux and Toulouse in the bottom half and which frustrated PSG, who could defeat them only 1-0 at home in December.
