Preview
Burnley and Blackburn meet in the first east Lancashire derby for more than five years today with the winner knowing they will head into the World Cup break sitting top of the Championship standings.
The Clarets are at the pinnacle of the second tier despite seeing their 16-match unbeaten league run ended in spectacular fashion as they lost 5-2 at Sheffield United in their last league fixture.
Defeat at Bramall Lane was a blow for Vincent Kompany and his players, but they responded by claiming a 3-1 home victory over Crawley in the EFL Cup in midweek.
That victory means Burnley have won five home matches on the spin in all competitions and haven’t lost in 11 games at Turf Moor this season.
Blackburn also enjoyed cup success during the week, as despite naming a much-changed team, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side knocked out West Ham on penalties after a 2-2 draw in London.
Rovers are also playing well in the Championship, winning five of their last six, but six defeats in ten league road outings this term suggests there is a vulnerability within their squad.
Burnley can take advantage of any such weakness, especially with Rovers having failed to score in all six of their away defeats this season.
