Braintree set for successful final raid

Braintree have come through two tough away games at Hemel Hempstead and Dartford to get through to the National League South playoff final and they can finish the job by winning at Hampton & Richmond inside normal time.

The Iron had to revamp their squad after last season's relegation from the National League and it took them a while to reach their potential.

However, they had an excellent finish, taking 16 points from their last six games, and have gone from strength to strength in the playoffs.

Braintree will have taken great confidence from last Sunday's 1-0 win at Dartford, a team who finished 17 points above them in the league.

Hampton & Richmond also registered a 1-0 away victory in their semi-final at third-placed Chelmsford, but were given a rough ride by their hosts, who had defender Jazzi Barnum-Bobb sent off in the 54th minute.

Braintree took four points from their two league matches against Hampton and they look the likelier winners in the final.

Harrogate are favourites to make home advantage count in the National League North final against Brackley.

Town won 15 of their 21 home league games this season but they will be wary of Brackley, who are chasing a fourth successive away win and have also qualified for next week's FA Trophy final.
