Bookmakers suspend betting on Mauricio Pochettino in Premier League sack race
Tottenham face Arsenal in the north London derby this weekend
Betting firms have suspended betting on Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino becoming the first Premier League manager to leave his post this season.
Coral reported that punters had backed the Argentinian to leave at 1-6 before closing their market on Thursday and Betway announced on Friday morning that they have done the same.
It comes just days before the season's first North London derby, which Tottenham are 2-1 to win, with the draw 13-5 and Arsenal 7-5.
Betway’s Alan Alger said: “I’m not sure many saw it coming but there has been a massive move in the past 24 hours for Mauricio Pochettino to be the first Premier League manager sacked this season.
"We had him as an outsider at 20-1 yesterday afternoon but that price shortened up throughout the day and then sharply dropped to 7-2 overnight."
Pochettino has been cut to a best-priced 7-2 to be the first manager to go by other bookmakers and is available at 3-1 to be the next Manchester United manager.
As per the BBC, the Spurs boss responded in his press conference by saying: "After five years here now I have just started my sixth. You know how hard we worked in the summer to try and rebuild but those rumours are only created through social media.
"I am not going to walk away after the derby. I’m going to be here on Monday and Tuesday. I'm going to travel and then I will return to London. I’m not this type or person that sends messages through social media."
Tottenham are 4-7 to finish in the Premier League top four this season.
