Match preview

Blackburn were left devastated after conceding a 98th-minute goal in a 2-2 draw at home to Luton on Saturday but they should swiftly make amends by defeating struggling Hull at Ewood Park.

Nine points from six games is still a decent start for Rovers, who left it late to do the majority of their transfer business.

Budget constraints contributed to a difficult summer for Rovers manager Tony Mowbray, who made just five new signings – four of them on loan deals.

However, Mowbray's side have been competitive in every game and are benefiting from a strong start to the season from Chilean international striker Ben Brereton Diaz, who has netted three of their nine goals.

They played some good football against Luton and should have been out of sight before Hatters substitute Luke Berry pegged them back with two second-half goals.

It will have felt like two points dropped but the short turnaround may suit Rovers by giving them a swift opportunity to bounce back.

Promoted Hull are attempting to adjust to a higher level and have struggled since winning 4-1 at Preston on the opening weekend.

Injuries to key players Alfie Jones and George Honeyman have made life tougher for a squad constrained by a summer transfer embargo and manager Grant McCann could have his work cut out keeping them in the division.

McCann's side rode their luck to draw 0-0 at Swansea on Saturday but they may not be as fortunate in Lancashire.

Key stat

Hull have failed to score in their last five matches.
