Team news

Blackburn
Darragh Lenihan (knee) and Greg Cunningham (knee ligaments) both sustained injuries in the 4-2 loss at QPR a fortnight ago. Lewis Travis (hamstring) could feature.

Huddersfield
Terence Kongolo (knock) and Alex Pritchard (ankle) are available but Collin Quaner remains sidelined.

Match preview

Huddersfield are unbeaten in three games for the first time since November 2018 and can extend their mini-revival by avoiding defeat against Blackburn at Ewood Park.

The Terriers have had a miserable 2019 – winning three of 29 league matches - and fears of a second successive relegation have not gone away despite the recent upturn in fortunes under Danny Cowley.

Huddersfield are just above the Sky Bet Championship drop zone thanks to scoring one more goal than third-bottom Reading. But Cowley is not getting carried away and has warned that survival is the only immediate target on his mind.

Over the longer term he has spoken of achieving 'another football miracle' by getting Huddersfield back into the Premier League but it will be a step-by-step process and Cowley's sole focus is on beating Blackburn.

His chances are improved considerably by injuries to Rovers' centre-back Darragh Lenihan and left-back Greg Cunningham, who were forced off during a 4-2 defeat at QPR before the international break.

Both were first-team regulars and the loss of Lenihan, ruled out for an estimated eight weeks, is particularly painful because Rovers have been short of quality centre-back cover since allowing Charlie Mulgrew to move on a season-long-loan to Wigan.

Offensively, Rovers carry plenty of threats but the pick of the bunch is attacking midfielder Bradley Dack, who has netted in four of the last six games.

However, two of those goals have been in losing performances and Dack's efforts could be wasted again unless Blackburn play with a lot more defensive cohesion than they did at Loftus Road.

Creating chances against Huddersfield – who are looking better organised with every week that passes under the Cowley regime – will not be easy and, if the home side commit too many bodies forward, they could leave themselves exposed.

Huddersfield will look to utilise the pace of Karlan Grant, their six-goal top scorer, at every opportunity and a single goal may be enough to ensure that they take at least a point back across the Pennines.

Key stat

Blackburn have kept just one clean sheet in the last seven matches.
