Ayr could keep up their fine run against Dumbarton
Raith may take chance to catch Dundee cold in Betfred Cup
Betfred Cup matches, 7.45pm Tuesday
Dumbarton failed to win any of their four showdowns with Ayr United in the Ladbrokes Championship last season and the Honest Men can continue that trend by beating the Sons in Tuesday's Betfred Cup action.
Ayr kicked off their Group E campaign with a decent 1-0 win against rivals Kilmarnock while this is Dumbarton’s first match.
The Sons survived the threat of relegation from the Championship by the skin of their teeth while Ayr weren’t so fortunate, but Ian McCall’s men are confident they’ll be bouncing straight back up and there is probably less between these sides than the odds might imply.
Equally, Raith Rovers, like Ayr relegated from the Championship, really should fancy their chances at home to Dundee in Group C.
Raith have had the run-out – they lost 2-0 at Dundee United on Sunday – while Dundee boss Neil McCann has to figure out how many of his array of summer signings are to get a chance in their first match of the competition.
Raith weren’t disgraced at Tannadice and, as boss Barry Smith says, this is a chance to catch Dundee cold and put some points on the board.
