Expect reeling sides to leak goals at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium

There’s precious little in Atlanta's form to suggest they’re worth chancing at short odds against anyone, and that includes a team as travel-sick as Houston.

The current MLS champs have won just one of their last five league games, conceding 15 goals in the process, and keeper Brad Guzan says they are getting what they deserve.

The fact that they are going off as 4-7 shots tells you all you need to know about Atlanta’s record at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (where they have lost only one of their last 23 in the league) and Houston’s on the road (they have not won away since March and have lost seven in a row).

But Atlanta’s confidence isn’t high and they’re also short-handed with defender Franco Escobar suspended and Brek Shea a non-runner with an ankle injury sustained in Sunday’s 2-1 loss at Seattle.

That was their fifth game in a fortnight and Houston ought to be the fresher team.

Houston had started the season well but have gone badly off the boil, claiming just four points from the last 24 possible.

That lone away success came in March, and was at leaky Colorado, and they have since dropped to eighth place in the Western Conference.

Expect goals. Atlanta’s last five matches have yielded 23 of them, Houston’s matches go at exactly three goals a game while the two previous MLS dust-ups between the teams have produced nine.

Recommendation
Over 3.5 goals
