Zinedine Zidane returns to Real Madrid dugout and stuns bookies
Triple Champions League winner replaces axed Santiago Solari
Triple Champions League winning manager Zinedine Zidane has sensationally agreed to rejoin Real Madrid, the club he left in the summer, to the surprise of bookmakers who had thought Jose Mourinho was on his way back to the Bernabeu.
Zidane was backed from 16-1 to 5-1 to replace Santiago Solari following Real Madrid's Champions League exit at the hands of Ajax last week, but Mourinho strengthened as the odds-on favourite after reports in Spain suggested the Frenchman had turned down the chance to return to Madrid.
However, in a whirlwind afternoon Madrid sacked Santiago Solari, who had only been in the job since replacing Julen Lopetegui in October, before announcing Zidane's appointment.
Little can be done to save Real Madrid's season with the club third in La Liga, 12 points behind leaders Barcelona, and already out of the Champions League and Copa del Rey, but it is widely assumed Zidane will be heavily backed to improve the squad.
That could be terrible news for Chelsea supporters.
Zidane is the idol of Eden Hazard, who is 2-5 with Sky Bet to join Real before the end of the summer transfer window, with the Belgian 2-1 to remain at Stamford Bridge.
Despite scoring twice as a substitute for Zidane in last season's Champions League final, it has been suggested that Gareth Bale's relationship with the coach had broken down.
Bale is 8-11 with Sky Bet to depart Madrid in the summer and evens to remain. Manchester United are 3-1 to sign the Welshman.
