Football accumulator tips for Saturday August 6: Clarets form 7-1 fourfold

Peterborough and Portsmouth home fancies in League One

The Premier League joins the new season party this weekend, meaning there's a bumper day of action to enjoy on Saturday.

The top flight doesn't feature amongst the selection for Saturday's accumulator, which instead concentrates on week two of the fledgling Football League campaign.

All bets must be placed by 3pm on Saturday.

Racing Post football expert Aaron Ashley has picked:

Burnley to beat Luton

Peterborough to beat Morecambe

Portsmouth to beat Lincoln

Mansfield to beat Tranmere

Burnley v Luton

Burnley were utterly dominant in their 1-0 win at Huddersfield on the Championship’s opening day and can make it two from two at home to Luton. Vincent Kompany’s side enjoyed 70 per cent possession as the Terriers failed to register a shot on target. Meanwhile, the Hatters were held to a goalless draw at home to Birmingham and, despite making the playoffs last term, won only nine of their 23 away assignments - they finished with a -7 goal difference on their travels.

Peterborough v Morecambe

Peterborough highlighted their attacking qualities as they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Cheltenham last weekend and they should be a cut above Morecambe at home. Posh are expected to be in promotion contention in League One whereas their visitors, who shipped 53 goals in 23 away games last term, look more likely to face a scrap for survival.

Portsmouth v Lincoln

Portsmouth would have been thrilled to come away with a point from their trip to Sheffield Wednesday last weekend and can build on that at home to Lincoln. Pompey finished last season's campaign strongly at Fratton Park, winning eight and drawing two of their final ten fixtures, a run which featured victories over promoted pair Rotherham and Wigan. The Imps lost 3-2 on this seaside trip in April and look set to suffer the same fate.

Mansfield v Tranmere

Mansfield and Tranmere lost their opening games of the League Two season but, armed with home advantage, the Stags can bounce back. There are title expectations this season at Field Mill, where Mansfield won 14 of their final 18 home games last term. Rovers, on the other hand, looked disjointed in a 2-1 reverse at home to Stevenage last weekend and won only one of their final ten away games in the basement last season.
