Focused Lyon have cup revenge in their sights
French Cup last 16
The main priority for Lyon this season is to secure a top-three finish in the league and their chances have taken a hit in recent times with back-to-back losses away to Bordeaux (3-1) and Monaco (3-2).
Another tricky away game is in store against Montpellier, who have sustained just three home defeats this season.
However, Montpellier are 14 points below Lyon in the league and likely to face a much sterner test than in the December meeting when Lyon head coach Bruno Genesio paid the price for making eight changes to his starting line-up.
Lyon have two more chances to land a trophy (the French Cup and the Europa League) and will be determined to stop the recent trend of poor results.
A contrast in styles can be expected with Montpellier looking to keep things tight and maintain the discipline which has helped them concede just 20 league goals this season, the second-lowest total in the top flight.
Lyon have shipped 28 league goals but have outscored Montpellier by 54 goals to 22 and their greater attacking weapons could decide the outcome.
Forwards Nabil Fekir and Mariano Diaz are fourth and fifth in the Le Championnat scoring charts with 16 and 14 goals, yet neither of them was involved in the heavy League Cup defeat to Montpellier.
They are likely to have prominent roles this time and can help steer Genesio's side through to the quarter-finals.
