The return to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan in Las Palmas colours of forward Vitolo, two months after he’d apparently pledged his future to Sevilla, adds spice to this La Liga showdown.

Las Palmas boss Manolo Marquez has named Vitolo in his squad for the trip to Andalucia and the Spain international can expect a hostile welcome from the home fans.

The best way to silence them would be to mastermind a shock away win and after two straight successes – the first at Malaga, the second at home to Athletic Bilbao – the Canary Islanders have to have a degree of confidence.

But Sevilla are looking seriously good this term, unbeaten in seven European and domestic matches, and a home win to nil looks a fair play for punters who don’t think much of the 4-9 about the hosts.

Sevilla, who looked impressive drawing 2-2 at Liverpool in the Champions League, have also been flying in La Liga. They are unbeaten in four matches with three wins and they’ve conceded just one goal.

Going back to last term, they have not failed to score in their last 13 matches and while coach Eduardo Berizzo is far too sensible to talk about the possibility of improving on last season’s fourth place, plenty of others in the dressing room and the board room are certainly bullish about that prospect.

Las Palmas will present a decent test. Anchored by the still-classy Alberto Aquilani and with the threat of Loic Remy in attack, the Islanders are an improvement on the team who signed off last term with five straight defeats.

The win over Athletic was a real indicator of their progress but Sevilla have won their last three to nil and can make it four on the spin.
