Match preview

St Albans City produced the biggest shock of the first round of the FA Cup, dumping highflying League Two side Forest Green Rovers out 3-2.

Their reward for that win was a local derby with Boreham Wood.

Just nine miles and one division separates the two sides, with Boreham Wood near the top of the National League and St Albans in a similar position in the league below.

St Albans came back down to earth with a bump after their win over Forest Green, losing two on the bounce before they returned to winning ways in the FA Trophy against Oxford City.

A 0-0 draw with Tonbridge followed, but the Saints netted in their 11 games before that and are taken to get on the scoresheet here.

However, the quality of Boreham Wood may just tell.

Luke Garrard’s side have won 12 of their 19 games this season, losing just twice.

The home side here are unbeaten at Meadow Park and are taken to progress to the third round of the cup for the second consecutive year.

The Wood were beaten only 2-0 by Millwall in that stage last season after beating Canvey Island and Southend to reach that point and are a formidable opponent for a club of their size.

With what is sure to be a raucous atmosphere, St Albans can trouble the scorers, but Boreham Wood should confirm their superiority.

Key stat

Boreham Wood are unbeaten in ten home games this season.
