Exeter may not get it all their own way against Gloucester

Cherry & Whites have proved annoying adversaries

Mark Atkinson scores a try for Gloucester in their win over London Irish

Premiership champions Exeter are not the sort of outfit to rest on the laurels of last weekend's Anglo-Welsh Cup success and bookmakers expect them to romp to victory over Gloucester on Sunday.

However, the Cherry & Whites have proved annoying adversaries for the Chiefs in recent seasons and look worth a wager with a double-figure handicap start in Devon.

Gloucester have won three of the teams' last six league meetings and stayed within ten points on each occasion, including last season's 27-27 draw at Sandy Park.

Chiefs director of rugby Rob Baxter has refreshed his ranks from their cup win over Bath with only fly-half Joe Simmonds and flanker Dave Dennis starting again, but they have not been stretching away from sides in recent weeks including at home to a Northampton outfit who are in disarray.

The Cherry & Whites will be buzzing after their cracking European Challenge Cup quarter-final win at Connacht last weekend and they have gone toe-to-toe with playoff-chasing Newcastle, Wasps and Leicester at Kingsholm.

A 33-29 win at London Irish a fortnight ago should have made them feel better about their league travels after a poor 25-15 loss at Worcester in February.

Toulon get a seven-point start for their trip to Racing 92 in the Top 14 (Sky Sports Arena, 3.50pm)
