Everton odds-on to appoint Marco Silva after Sam Allardyce leaves Goodison Park
Shakhtar's Fonseca a possible alternative
Marco Silva is the odds-on favourite to be Everton's next manager after the Merseyside club parted company with Sam Allardyce.
Everton released a statement on Wednesday announcing Allardyce's departure a day after a boardroom reshuffle.
Denise Barrett-Baxendale has replaced Robert Elstone as the club's chief executive and one of her first assignments is to pursue a deal for Silva, just six months after the club failed to prise the Portuguese coach away from Watford.
Silva was sacked by Watford in January but the Hertfordshire club remain at loggerheads with Everton and have responded to this week's events by logging an official complaint with the Premier League.
A deal for Silva is still expected to go through but, if Everton are forced to look at alternatives, Paulo Fonseca is thought to be high on their shortlist.
The Shakhtar Donetsk mananger, recently linked with the West Ham job, is 7-2 to succeed Allardyce at Goodison Park.
Coral quote David Moyes as a 6-1 chance to return to Everton while Arsene Wenger is a 16-1 chance.
