Match preview

Markets can sometimes overreact to one bad game and they seem to have done so in regards to Turkey after their disappointing defeat to Italy in the opening game of Euro 2020.

Turkey were poor in Rome but they were playing an accomplished side who were unbeaten in 27 games in their own backyard. They should improve on that showing against a Wales side who probably need to beat them to stand any chance of progressing to the last-16.

Goalkeeper Danny Ward almost single-handedly secured the Dragons a point against the Swiss, who had 18 attempts on goal.

Turkey scored ten goals in three World Cup qualifiers recently so know where the net is, especially veteran marksmen Burak Yilmaz who was central to Lille’s Ligue 1 title win and looks the Turks’ biggest goal threat. He averaged 2.4 shots per game in France’s top flight and at 10-11 he could be a decent bet to have three or more shots against Wales in Baku.

Dan James was a threat throughout against the Swiss with his pace and trickery causing real problems down the left. The Manchester United man was fouled three times and could cause issues for Turkey right-back Zeki Celik.

Celik was carded eight times in 29 appearances for Lille this season and James’s direct approach could expose him so the 9-2 about him being shown a card is an attractive price.
