Sunday's Euro 2020 preview

Connor Roberts sealed Wales's 2-0 victory over Turkey with an injury-time goal in Baku on Wednesday but the right-back could be kept busy at the other end of the pitch in their final Group A game in Rome.

Italy have swaggered to 3-0 victories over Turkey and Switzerland in their first two games and a feature of their play has been their willingness to attack down the flanks.

Swansea defender Roberts could be up against flying Roma left-back Leonardo Spinazzola, who tormented the Turkish defence in the opening game of the tournament, as well as the Azzurri's fleet-footed attacking players.

Another cause for concern for Roberts is Romanian referee Ovidiu Hategan, who sent him off for two bookable offences in the World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic at the end of March.

Fellow defender Chris Mepham, sent off for Bournemouth against Brentford in his final game of the domestic season and booked in two of his three subsequent matches for Wales, is also worth considering but, at the prices, Roberts appeals to receive a card.

Wales's Euro 2020 campaign started with a 1-1 draw against Switzerland, whose striker Breel Embolo scored during an eye-catching second-half display.

Embolo got little change out of a top-class Italy defence in his side's second game but he should be backed to register three or more shots against Turkey, who have looked all at sea at the back.

The Borussia Monchengladbach man had six shots against Wales, heading in a Xherdan Shaqiri corner but also threatening from open play, and Turkey conceded 24 attempts against Italy and 16 in the defeat to the Welsh.

The Turks have failed to defend set pieces convincingly and Swiss defender Fabian Schar looks a big price to take advantage.

The Newcastle man has scored eight international goals in 58 appearances and his deft back-heeled effort forced Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward into a smart save last Saturday.
