Essex to trap well with ace ten Doeschate back

Leaders 1-2 to prevail

Key all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate returns for Essex

Warwickshire v Essex

Pakistan v World XI first T20
Prime TV, 3pm Tuesday

Three rounds of County Championship fixtures remain and bookmakers believe that the early-autumn weather is a bigger threat to Essex claiming the title in their first season back in Division One than hosts Warwickshire.

Essex hold a 36-point advantage over nearest pursuers Lancashire going into this televised four-day clash at Edgbaston.

They are 1-2 to prevail while the brittle Bears are 7-4 and it was the Manchester rain as much as the Red Rose county that held up their charge last week.

Take the 8-11 that Essex record a higher first-innings score. They have gained 14 more bonus points than Warwickshire and skipper and key all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate returns after missing their trip to Old Trafford.

Essex's batting ranks are also bolstered by the return of England Test batsman Tom Westley while their attack is boosted by the arrival of New Zealand left-arm quick Neil Wagner for a second stint this season.

England all-rounder Chris Woakes returns for Warwickshire but experienced keeper-bat Tim Ambrose is out with a neck injury and last week's heavy defeat at Somerset must have sapped what was left of their morale.

Somerset look a value bet at 11-10 to follow up their success over the Bears with another home victory over Lancashire. The Cidermen will feel they have a huge chance of escaping the drop now and won three of their last four home matches last season. Lancashire's minds may drift to the events in Birmingham.

In Division Two, Worcestershire are 4-11 to overtake leaders Notts - who they beat at Trent Bridge last week - with victory over bottom-of-the-pile Leicestershire at New Road.

Pakistan are 4-5 with bet365 to beat a World XI in the first of three T20s in Lahore. The World XI, skippered by Faf du Plessis, are 13-10 with the firm to take the Independence Cup.
