Dover have class to chop down Braintree

Stones rolling towards safety

Dover striker Ricky Miller (centre) is the top scorer in the National League

National League
Braintree have slid back into deep relegation trouble in the National League with a sequence of six defeats in their last seven league games and their situation could be bleaker after Dover visit today.

The Kent side make the short trip to Essex with a spring in their step having won three of their last four games and motivation won't be a problem as they lie two points outside the playoff places with a game in hand on fifth-placed Aldershot.

Dover have been defending superbly and have conceded more than one goal in only one of their last 11 games - an out-of-character 5-0 defeat at Boreham Wood which was goalless until the 57th minute.

Braintree's only two successes in their last ten games have been against out-of-sorts Southport and Bromley and they lost their away game at Dover 6-1 in October.

Dover have lost both of their National League trips to Braintree without scoring but should be able to put that record straight.

Maidstone can make the long trip to Gateshead worthwhile by claiming at least another valuable point in their promising survival campaign.

The Stones have gone unbeaten in their last eight league games, winning five of them, as a clutch of smart loan signings have made the difference for the Kent side.

Gateshead may be feeling the pressure after drifting to the fringe of the playoff race and although they have been beaten only twice in 20 home league games, they can expect a test.
