Don't rule out Black Dolphins causing a bit of a splash
African Champions League
Odds of 11-4 about Vita Club for their African Champions League showdown with Saint George look on the big side.
With no points from their first three Group C outings, it’s understandable why the DR Congo giants are being dismissed.
But this is a tough section and a win in Kinshasa would put the Black Dolphins right back in the hunt for a last-eight spot with the top two from the four groups going through.
With Esperance of Tunis and Mamelodi Sundowns also in the section, qualification was never going to be easy. Perennial Ethiopian champions Saint George are also on the up.
These sides met two weeks ago in Addis Ababa, a match won
1-0 by the hosts courtesy of a goal from Saladin Said, his sixth of the competition and also his sixth in his last five matches.
They are top of the league under Dutch coach Mart Nooij and have yet to concede a goal in three games – their first two matches against Esperance and the Sundowns ended 0-0.
Indeed, Vita may be bottom but their two-goal tally so far is one more than Saint George have managed and with home advantage, there is no reason why the Congolese powers, winner of the tournament way back in 1973, shouldn’t chalk up their first three-pointer and get back in the quarter-final hunt.
