Dhawan can be India's driving force in Kolkata Test
Opener hit two tons in August series success in Sri Lanka
Sky Sports Cricket & Main Event, 4am Thursday
India completed a historic whitewash when travelling to Sri Lanka for an overseas three-Test series in August and opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan could pile more misery on the touring Lankans in the first Test in Kolkata.
Sri Lanka have never won a Test match in India and the near-flawless form of Virat Kohli’s men - they recently defeated New Zealand 2-1 in a Twenty20 series - suggests the tourists are unlikely to have their say.
Dhawan was the driving force behind India's triumph against their neighbours. The left-hander hit 190 in the first-innings in Galle before overcoming a disappointing second Test to manufacture 119 in the opening innings in Pallekele.
The 31-year-old is an experienced head and the relentless runscoring of India’s top order should see Dhawan deliver a sizeable contribution.
Sri Lanka look up against it as they appear too reliant on the ageing duo of Angelo Mathews and spin sensation Rangana Herath.
