Dennis Nilsson ready to lead parade of underdogs
Lakeside favourites in for a fright

Dennis Nilsson can lead a parade of underdogs at the Lakeside on Tuesday when four favourites look well worth taking on in the BDO World Championships.
Nilsson has already savoured a taste of the stage in Frimley Green, producing a decent 92.5 average in a 3-0 triumph over Dutch ace Jeffrey Sparidaans in the preliminary round.
Now he comes up against in-form Jim Williams, a streaky player who has never produced his best in three Lakeside visits.
The same can't be said of Richard Veenstra, who reached the semis two years ago.
Despite his pedigree and decent enough form in 2017 – the 11th seed won the German Masters – he's the outsider against Kyle McKinstry, a Northern Ireland slinger well regarded by many.
On his debut, however, he could be anything and Veenstra snapping at his heels looks a fair price at 13-8.
Dirk Telnekes impressed in his preliminary-round match, beating Chris Landman 3-0. He showed he's got the bottle because each set went to a fifth leg and even though he'll have to up his game against Geert de Vos, he can. De Vos continues to underachieve at the Lakeside.
Who will be the BDO Champions?
Conan Whitehead beat Cameron Menzies last month – Whitehead defeated the Scot 5-3 at the Finder Masters – and there looks no reason why he can’t repeat that feat.
Menzies beat Simon Whitlock at the Grand Slam before folding against dartitis victim Berry van Peer in a sorry loss. He has had a couple of wins in 2017, but Kent brickie Whitehead is no mug and will have the crowd on his side.
