Dean Burmester can power into contention
Dazzling Jamie Donaldson sets pace in Dubai
Second round
Sky Sports Golf, 7.30am Friday
Jamie Donaldson threatened the first 59 in European Tour history in round one of the Dubai Desert Classic, needing to birdie his final two holes for the magic number, but the Welshman finished par, bogey for a 62.
Donaldson, a 200-1 rag, shortened to 16-1 after his fantastic opening round, but Rory McIlroy, three shots behind in fifth place, was cut from 5-1 to 5-2 at the head of the betting. The two-time Emirates Club champion carded a bogey-free round.
Second-round threeball punters should consider Dean Burmester for his 7.50am (UK and Ireland time) match against Marcus Fraser and Chris Paisley. Burmester shot 67 on his first look at the Emirates in round one, instantly falling in love with the track.
He finished fourth on his debut in the other Dubai event – the DP World Tour Championship – and could do something similar this week.
