Preview

Fallon Sherrock and a home team of seven Dutchmen will have the locals roaring at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam, although two Englishmen and a German look like the ones for punters to latch on to.

Sherrock, inevitably, is the name that jumps out in the 24-player field and she is confident she can produce more fireworks among the PDC elite.

A massive 200-1 to win the thing, she's probably not going to get much serious support even though she is seeded two, courtesy of her runner-up spot at the Nordic Masters in Copenhagen – the only counting event.

She had to win only two matches to reach that final – scheduled quarter-final opponent Gerwyn Price pulled out through injury – although you couldn't fault her wonderful comeback success over Dimitri van den Bergh in the semis.

This trailblazer for women's darts is bullish about her chances and seems utterly fearless on the stage, and the same definitely cannot be said for those who have to play her. On Saturday that will be the winner of the first-round tie between Krzyzstof Ratajksi and Gabriel Clemens.

Elsewhere, the top half of the draw features the game's big three at the moment – home idol Michael van Gerwen, world number one and world champion Price and surely the player of the year, Jonny Clayton.

That makes the bottom half a good deal softer, especially if Peter Wright doesn't rediscover his touch after a pair of first-round exits at the Grand Prix and European Championships.

The Scot is a 6-1 shot which looks short enough and Snakebite is happily swerved for one or two others in his half, among them Michael Smith, who looks a decent price at 7-1 just to win the quarter.

To do that would mean three wins, the first of which would be against qualifier Kim Huybrechts, a player Bully Boy has beaten on their last two meetings. The most recent of those was a week ago in the last-eight stage of a Pro Tour event in Barnsley which Smith won, his second title of 2021.

If Smith clicks he can beat anyone, but even streakier is Gabriel Clemens who is also worth a punt in the third quarter – Sherrock's section – at 6-1.

The big-scoring German will also have to win three matches to cop, one of which would be against Sherrock, and he should be confident after reaching a Pro Tour final last week.

The other interesting bet is Mervyn King at 17-2 in the top quarter.

King, runner-up in two majors in the last year, qualified well for this, whitewashing Darius Labanauskas and then beating Damon Heta, both with ton-plus averages.
