Ryan Searle v Willie Borland

Head to head: Borland leads 1-0

The nine-dart kid, Willie Borland, kicks off proceedings on day eight against one of the tour's most in-form performers in Ryan Searle, and this should be an absolute belter.

Borland has to reproduce what he did against Bradley Brooks and then some, and in that case he can give Searle a run. But Heavy Metal was tipped at the start to win the whole tournament and he can get the job done.

Glen Durrant v Willie O'Connor

Head-to-head: no previous meetings

It is less than three years since Duzza ruled the Lakeside and only 18 months since he was winning the Premier League.

Yet now he finds himself 5-1 to beat Willie O'Connor and even at that price looks unbackable. It wasn't so long ago that Durrant was swerving exhibitions because he was so embarrassed with how he was throwing, and this proud darter doesn't need much to go wrong on stage before any residual confidence there might be drains away.

And, to make matters worse, he's playing a seriously capable opponent in Willie O'Connor who averaged 96 against Dan Lauby in round one and should dot up comfortably enough.

Luke Humphries v Rowby-John Rodriguez

Head-to-head: Rodriguez leads 2-1

There's been interest in Rowby-John Rodriguez after his demolition of Nick Kenny, but Luke Humphries is still the bet.

The UK Open runner-up is a four-time finalist this year and having enjoyed two runs to the quarter-finals at the Palace, back him to put Little John in his place.

Joe Cullen v Jim Williams

Head-to-head: no previous meetings

If Joe Cullen wins this, as he should, then he should also absolutely dominate the 180s count.

Cullen is a machine on the treble-20 bed, averaging a maximum every 3.3 legs on tour this year. Williams, who failed to hit a single one during his 3-1 triumph over Ted Evetts, averages one every six legs.

Williams, interestingly, hit only six 140s in 14 legs of action with Evetts – he's a prodigious switcher and the angle at which his darts enter the board isn't conducive to 180-gathering.

Nathan Aspinall v Joe Murnan

Head-to-head: Murnan leads 2-0

Joe Murnan has beaten The Asp on both occasions they have met and that has to give him confidence. What won't inspire him, however, is his performance during his 3-2 win over Paul Lim, where he banged in five 180s and had a respectable enough 35 per cent on the doubles – yet averaged under 80.

That's way too many loose darts and while Lim couldn't take advantage, Aspinall most certainly can. Then again, at 2-13 the odds tell you as much.

Dirk van Duijvenbode v Boris Koltsov

H2H: Koltsov leads 1-0

This could be fun. Zany Cossack Boris Koltsov had a blast up on stage getting the better of Jermaine Wattimena in round one and now sets his sights on another Dutchman. The difference is that DvD is a great watch with a great game and his scoring power should be the difference.

There's another 180s bet to be had here as well. The phenomenal Van Duijvenbode actually averages a max every 2.6 legs on tour in 2021, a stunning number that suggests he can dot up in the maximums handicap. Koltsov averages a 180 every 5.5 legs.

Kim Huybrechts v Steve Beaton

H2H: Beaton leads 9-7

Kim Huybrechts has found some form this autumn, beating Michael Smith and Peter Wright to reach the World Series quarters - he averaged 97 over three games - and also improved enormously on the floor.

He's not quite at his level of a few years ago, although the same is true of the Adonis, who produced set averages of over 100 and in the 70s in his hard-fought win over Fallon Sherrock. That kind of mixed bag probably won't be good enough.

Simon Whitlock v Martijn Kleermaker

H2H: no previous meetings

An illustration of the form of these two is revealed by their seedings in last month's Players Championship Finals - Martijn Kleermaker was 35th and The Wizard down at 60.

Kleermaker boasted the better legs-won percentage over the year and a slightly higher average.

In short, there isn't much between these two and Kleermaker looked decent when beating John Michael with a 91 average. All in all, there's enough statistically to suggest the Dutchman's a shade of value at 6-4.
