Outsiders look ready to upset big-name rivals at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool

Krzysztof Ratajski flew past Darren Webster in the first round of the Betfred World Matchplay on Monday and the Polish Eagle looks set to soar once more when he takes on Rob Cross in round two.

Ratajski was a fairly impressive 10-5 winner against Webster, and although an 89.23 three-dart average suggests he will need to raise his game to beat Cross, the 42-year-old threw two 15-dart legs, three legs of 16, three of 17 and two of 18 and a slight improvement on that level should see the Pole at least remain competitive.

The Polish Eagle was decent on the doubles - hitting ten of 23 finishing attempts - and Ratajski's form on the floor this term suggests there is more to come.

Clearly, more will be needed if he is to upset a classy operator like Cross but Hills' offer of even-money about Ratajski getting a 3.5-leg start looks generous.

Another outsider who maybe able to outrun their odds is Keegan Brown. The Needle is an impressive thrower at his best and his form on the Pro Tour in recent months suggests he is no back number against Daryl Gurney.

Brown averaged 95.59 and hit an impressive ten of 16 shots at the double in a high-class 10-8 win over Jonny Clayton and that kind of throwing can cause Gurney problems on the Winter Gardens stage.

Superchin managed to sneak past Ricky Evans in the opening round but Brown is unlikely to pass up any opportunities that come his way.
