Jermaine Wattimena, the man they call Machine Gun, has got a place in the last eight of the Grand Slam in his sights after reaching the knockout stage for the first time.

The stage-shy Dutchman rarely produces his best in front of the cameras but he's shown plenty of bottle emerging from a tough group to set up a last-16 showdown with Nathan Aspinall.

He came into the event in good form after reaching back-to-back Pro Tour quarter-finals on the same weekend he saw off Brendan Dolan among others to qualify for Wolverhampton.

And wins over Damon Heta and Leonard Gates have given Wattimena a look at Aspinall, who he has never beaten in six previous set-tos.

The Asp is the first to admit he's not quite on his game at the moment and despite winning his section, he lost to Alan Soutar and then beat a Peter Wright, who is not at the races right now.

Wattimena, a scattergun chucker when he burst onto the scene, has lost a bit of weight and slowed down his throw just a fraction and it's made him a better player and a genuine threat to someone like Aspinall. At the very least the Dutchman can cover a 2.5-leg spread in this best-of-19 legs showdown.
