Night Ten preview
Nathan Aspinall and Dimitri van den Bergh were top of the table when the half-time whistle was blown on the 2021 Premier League, and there is every reason to believe they will come out for the second half in equally good form.
Both are outsiders to win their matches against Peter Wright and Michael van Gerwen, yet both look decent value as we head into the final throes of an event now down to eight players with Rob Cross and Glen Durrant eliminated.
Jonny Clayton v James Wade
Premier League 2021: Wade 7-2 Clayton
James Wade, the making-up-the-numbers guy of this year's Premier League, finds himself in the top four after nine rounds.
Among notable successes in part one were a 7-2 drubbing of Jonny Clayton and there's no reason to think the tables will be turned back at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.
Neither man went to Germany for Super Series so the formbook still reads Wade playing well and good enough to avoid defeat against the Welshman.
Jose De Sousa v Gary Anderson
Premier League 2021: Anderson 7-5 De Sousa
Back-to-back defeats to sign off Phase One leave Gary Anderson last of the remaining eight players, though there's precious little between any of them.
And he knows he can beat De Sousa having done so on Night Two when the Scot prevailed 7-5.
Grand Slam winner De Sousa now, however, looks like he belongs and he'll be further buoyed by throwing in some outrageous numbers on his way to a win and a quarter-final during Super Series 3. Layers make him the favourite and that looks fair enough.
Maximums in this match are in at 9.5 which might seem excessive except that De Sousa is averaging a 180 every two legs and Ando one every three. And there can be a maximum of 14 legs at this stage of the tournament – it was 12 in the first nine nights.
Dimitri van den Bergh v Michael van Gerwen
Premier League 2021: Van den Bergh 6 Van Gerwen 6
The Dream-maker struck gold in Niedernhausen last time out with a win and a semi in the four Players Championship events staged in Germany, and there's every reason to think he can take care of Michael van Gerwen.
The Green Machine just can't get going in 2021 – he hasn't gone this long without winning a first title of the year since 2011 – and is losing to some unlikely people, such as Lewis Williams, Josh Payne, William Borland and Gino Vos. That would never have happened back in the day.
Right now he's not in a good place and the prices are the wrong way round.
Peter Wright v Nathan Aspinall
Premier League 2021: Aspinall 7-3 Wright
Nathan Aspinall, last year's beaten finalist, sits top of the shop after the first half with five wins from nine played.
One of those wins was against Peter Wright and The Asp looks nicely priced to repeat the feat.
