Night 15 preview

Dimitri van den Bergh must have been left scratching his head in bewilderment walking off the Marshall Arena stage on Tuesday night, wondering how on earth he'd lost ground in the race for Friday's Premier League playoffs.

The Dream-maker was throwing some fantastic darts against Peter Wright, piling in eight maximums, hitting 62 percent of his checkouts as part of a dazzling average of 106.97 in a match he led 5-3.

And he lost. Sometimes you just don't get what you deserve in life.

No matter, onwards and upwards, and the beauty of this year's Premier League is that Van den Bergh, like all his rivals, can stick a plaster on the cut and get back in the saddle within 24 hours, more than enough time for the Belgian to convince himself that he is going to take out his frustration on his next adversary, James Wade.

Betting against Wade always carries a health warning – easily and lazily written off too often because of his demeanour and body language, he also has a knack of canning a few accas. He did so again on Tuesday, holding Nathan Aspinall to a 7-7 draw.

But Van den Bergh is throwing beautifully and is well worth siding with given the numbers he is producing.

Wade cannot qualify for the playoffs – Van den Bergh's showdown with Jonny Clayton last night means 16 points won't be enough for the left-hander – and nor can Gary Anderson, who takes on The Asp.

Aspinall thumped the Scot 7-2 when they met earlier in the competition and last year's beaten finalist has had a good week with three points out of four and a leg difference to suggest his place in the semis is fairly secure. Regardless, he ought to be too consistent for Ando.

It's incredible, but the return of the fans has seen a return of the spark in Snakebite, and Peter Wright can make it three wins out of three this week in front of a Milton Keynes crowd.

Wright has come to life. He has left himself far too much to do, but that won't stop him from trying and if he can do a proper job on Jonny Clayton (and pray for help from Wade) then the Scot might just go into Thursday night with a sniff of qualification.

The last match is between Jose de Sousa and Michael van Gerwen, the first man confirmed through to Friday's semis. De Sousa should join him but will be wary of a hammering when leg difference could yet prove crucial. He's got the firepower to give the Dutchman a game in what ought to be a close encounter.
