Premier League Darts predictions

Nathan Aspinall has one foot in the Premier League playoffs after landing the honours in Aberdeen last Thursday and he can seal the deal by beating Michael van Gerwen on Night 16 in Sheffield.

The league stage comes to its conclusion in the Steel City with one place in next week's finals up for grabs - and it's between Aspinall and Van Gerwen.

The Asp is fourth in the standings and four points clear of the Green Machine who needs to beat the Englishman and then go on to claim his first nightly triumph at the 16th attempt to reach the O2.

Van Gerwen has done some miraculous things in the past but doesn't look capable of such an effort these days, especially having not won a single game in his last four events, a Players Championship contest, two Premier League Thursdays and the European Grand Prix.

He lost 6-3 to Aspinall in Aberdeen last week having also lost their two previous Premier League confrontations, on Nights Eight and Ten.

Aspinall is clearly in the right nick to land the odds in his tie, while Stephen Bunting is also playing well enough to detain Luke Littler on stage for a while.

This is top versus bottom but far from a mismatch as their last two Premier League clashes illustrated, the first in Rotterdam on Night 11 ending 6-5 to Bunting with The Nuke returning the favour by the same scoreline two weeks later in Birmingham.

The Bullet has had a disappointing campaign in terms of results but is still averaging better than four of his seven rivals. He can run the defending champion close and certainly play his part in a game set to go to ten legs or more.

Over the last four nights of Premier League action, Luke Humphries has played eight matches, winning five of them.

His average over those four weeks has been a staggering 102.5, showing there isn't an awful lot wrong with Cool Hand's game as he prepares for next week's playoffs.

Humphries plays Rob Cross in the quarter-finals in Sheffield and it is hard to believe that the world number one won't exceed an average of 98.5.

He pinged a nine-darter against Voltage when they met in March in Brighton and according to the PDC's own stats library, Humphries tops the current form (and averages) table.
