Premier League Darts predictions

The first eight Thursdays of this year’s Premier League must have left like a hard day’s night for Stephen Bunting.

The Bullet failed to win a single match before breaking his duck with night honours in Berlin three weeks ago, and success in Germany has been the catalyst for some more solid performances.

Few players would have coped with Luke Humphries on Night Ten, when Cool Hand posted a 118 average against Bunting, but the man from Merseyside got back to top form in Rotterdam last week, beating Michael van Gerwen and Luke Littler before falling to Chris Dobey in the final.

Bunting also lifted the International Darts Trophy earlier this month and has won ten of his last 12 games ahead of Thursday's latest Premier League pitstop in Liverpool, where local boy Bunting will have a partisan crowd on his side.

His quarter-final opponent, Rob Cross, pulled out of the International Trophy with an injury and Voltage is clearly still struggling as he has lost five of his last six matches.

The former world champion is the only player yet to make a final in this year's Premier League and he may struggle to keep pace with home hero Bunting.

Dobey became the sixth different night winner in Rotterdam last week but he may be brought back down to earth by Gerwyn Price in Liverpool.

The Iceman has had Hollywood’s number for some time now, winning 14 of the pair's last 16 meetings, and is playing some excellent stuff.

The Welshman landed a nine-darter in Manchester two weeks ago and it took a three-dart average of 111 by Josh Rock to knock him out of last weekend’s European Tour event.

Only Bunting has lost more first-round matches in this season's Premier League than Dobey and another early exit may be forthcoming at the M&S Arena.

That said, the former Masters champion has thrown seven more 180s than Price despite playing seven fewer legs and he could win the maximum count in defeat.
