Night Three betting preview

Joe Cullen has had the week of his life and can maintain that momentum by reaching his second successive final when the Premier League reaches Belfast.

Cullen, 10-3 to make the last two, needs to beat Michael van Gerwen and either Gerwyn Price or Michael Smith at the SSE Arena and there's no doubt that on current form he is the pick of that quartet.

And it looks an even better pick when you consider that the players who won the first two heats and are arguably the best two in the world right now, world champ Peter Wright and defending champ Jonny Clayton, are in the other half of the draw.

Michael Smith v Gerwyn Price

Head-to-head: Smith leads 15-13

Night Three opens up with a heavyweight showdown between Michael Smith and Gerwyn Price, and neither man is really yet to get going.

Price has at least had one win, Smith's yet to manage even that, so this is a big duel between two players who won't want to be giving up too much ground.

Smith hasn't played well on either floor weekend adding to the sense that Gezzy should go in here. The prices look about right, although under 5.5 180s at 5-4 would reflect their struggles. Smith has hit three maximums in 18 legs so far, Price five in 29.

Joe Cullen v Michael van Gerwen

Head-to-head: Van Gerwen leads 17-6

Cullen is absolutely flying. Winner at the Masters at the end of January to make the Premier League, a finalist last week after beating James Wade and Price and then producing a stunning Pro Tour double at the weekend in Wigan, Rockstar can do no wrong.

To that end he's well worth backing to beat Van Gerwen, who he beat 10-7 in Milton Keynes in the Masters and who is still too inconsistent for his own good.

Cullen's loss on Night One was only down to an abject display of finishing but the scoring is strong and throwing first he can boss Van Gerwen from the off.

Gary Anderson v Peter Wright

Head-to-head: Anderson leads 29-15

Betfair have got Peter Wright in for a 97.5 average which looks on the low side.

He soared through that on all three occasions on Night One before having an absolute nightmare last week against Van Gerwen.

That, though, was a one-off given the form Snakebite has been in and it beggars belief that normal service won't be resumed against Anderson.

As for the match, Wright has won eight of his last 12 against his compatriot over the last three years and, of course, pipped him 6-5 en route to glory in Cardiff two weeks back.

James Wade v Jonny Clayton

Head-to-head: Clayton leads 11-5

Jonny Clayton has the measure of James Wade having won eight of their last nine meetings. One of those was on Night One, a 6-4 triumph for the Welshman.

Wade averaged 91.45 that night despite hitting just four of 13 doubles, an unusually low return for the left-hander. Betfair have him in for a 92.5 average which he can clear this time since games featuring Clayton are rarely scrappy, so fluent is The Ferret.
