Night Six betting preview
Darting crocks Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price have been passed fit to line up in Nottingham on Night Six of the Premier League – but both look well worth taking on.
World number one Wright, struggling with a back injury and gallstones, pulled out midway through last weekend's German Darts Championship, a tournament world number two Price swerved altogether courtesy of a hand injury.
Michael Smith v James Wade
Head-to-head: Wade leads 17-5
Night Six kicks off with a match Michael Smith, throwing first and playing nicely, should win – though at 4-7, there isn't much to latch onto.
Wade boasts an excellent record against Bully Boy though it was Smith who prevailed when they met in the World Championship semi-finals in January.
The leftie has spoken again this week about being underrated and he does love being the underdog so don't expect him to go down without a fight.
Michael van Gerwen v Gerwyn Price
H2H: Van Gerwyn leads 22-6
Gerwyn Price insists he's not 100 per cent following the hand injury which forced him to sit out last week's trips to Brighton and Germany and even if he was, Michael van Gerwen would look hard to oppose at 8-11.
Van Gerwen is absolutely flying having won on Nights Four and Five before dotting up in Hildesheim on Sunday with an 8-5 triumph over Rob Cross in the final.
The Dutchman is at 'home' so will throw first, but back him to win with at least one break at 11-8.
Gary Anderson v Jonny Clayton
H2H: Anderson leads 8-4
It's already beginning to look desperate for Gary Anderson who, after winning his opening game in Cardiff on Night One, has not won another match.
It's questionable whether the Flying Scotsman's heart will be truly in it if he does start to get tailed off and he's not easy to fancy against Jonny Clayton, who was averaging in the high 90s when making the last eight in Germany over the weekend.
Hopefully it means Clayton is clicking again whereas Anderson has to pick himself up after averaging 85-and-change in a 6-1 mauling by Smith last week.
Clayton is long odds-on and rightly so. He's better value, however, to hit the most 180s - the Welshman is averaging a maximum every 3.5 legs while Anderson averages one every 4.4.
Joe Cullen v Peter Wright
H2H: Wright leads 21-5
Joe Cullen would be a fair proposition at 6-4 to beat Peter Wright under normal circumstances – and if Snakebite is inconvenienced by a back issue, then surely the Yorkshireman has to get the thumbs-up.
Cullen has been so inconsistent in this event – only Van Gerwen has hit more 180s but no one has a worse checkout percentage than Rockstar.
To that end, and if Wright is slightly inconvenienced, you can easily see the averages suffer with one or two shabby legs bringing the numbers tumbling.
