Night Four Preview

The fledgling Premier League table already has a fascinating look to it with newbies Dimitri van den Bergh and nine-dart hero Jonny Clayton sandwiching favourite Michael van Gerwen in the top three.

The standard of arrers on the first three nights has been sky-high with a tournament average of 97 and that includes poor old Glen Durrant, the defending champion, who is going through a horrible time.

Expect more fireworks on Night Four at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, where a couple of outsiders in 180s betting are worth more than a second glance.

The first is Nathan Aspinall, who is 6-4 to land more maximums than Jose de Sousa.

The Asp has played and beaten the bottom two – Duzza and James Wade – and beaten them deservedly. His one loss came against Dimitri van den Bergh but overall he has pinged 12 180s in 33 legs.

De Sousa is a famed big scorer and those big scores are flying in – though way more 140s than 180s. So far the Portuguese talent – who must be wondering how on earth he managed to post just three legs against Clayton despite registering a three-dart average over 108 – has nailed nine maximums in 34 legs.

On the floor, De Sousa will out-max anyone. The stage is different and the prices don't illustrate that.

The other price to nick is the 15-8 that Rob Cross hits more 180s than Clayton, the absolute man of the moment who has carried his Masters and floor form into the Premier League and suddenly looks the real deal.

Cross, written off before the tournament started, is actually throwing some nice stuff and gave MvG a fright or two before succumbing on Wednesday.

Voltage has three points to his name and 12 180s which is one more than Clayton. That should surprise no one. Cross always was a massive scorer but if he is emerging from a seriously lean 18 months - and the signs are good - then you know the maximums will pile up.

Also on the bill, expect wins for Van Gerwen against Wade and Gary Anderson against Durrant. The layers certainly do.

Game of the night may well be the opener between Van den Bergh and Peter Wright. The Belgian is buzzing after whitewashing Durrant, Snakebite is also feeling far more chipper after returning to his world title-winning darts to get the better of Anderson. It looks a tough one to call.
