Preview

Glen Durrant looks like a player with a lot more to give at the BoyleSports World Grand Prix and that spells trouble for Rob Cross when they meet in round two in Dublin.

Durrant had to fend off a solid start from Krzysztof Ratajski before coming out on top 2-1 in his first-ever game on the Citywest stage on Monday night.

Despite hitting only 18 ton-plus scores in 11 legs, Duzza still averaged a respectable 84.9 courtesy of a brilliant display of double-hitting – he pegged six of his nine finishing doubles.

Durrant is a famed scorer so if we presume he’ll pick that up having got through a trappy opener he ought to fancy his chances of toppling Cross.

Voltage himself had to come through a test against Mensur Suljovic, especially as the English former world champ had been whitewashed on his two previous visits to the Grand Prix.

Where Cross looked strong was in his scoring – he hit four 180s and 24 ton-plus scores in total in 11 legs against Suljovic – but he still looked anxious getting away in the double-in format.

If Cross’s scoring was impressive then so too was Dave Chisnall’s in his epic struggle against Gerwyn Price which went to a shootout.

Chizzy popped in five maximums in his 2-1 success and there’s every reason to think he’ll at least match that number over a potentially longer distance against Stephen Bunting in round two.

Between the two of them, they can rustle up nine 180s or more.

Chisnall had five against Barney 12 months ago in a second-round whitewash which went only nine legs. Bunting can detain Chizzy a lot longer than that and can also contribute his fair share of 180s.
