Having already met in a World Championship final and two Premier League finals, there is an expectation that the burgeoning rivalry between Luke Humphries and Luke Littler will be extended at this year's BoyleSports World Grand Prix.

The best two players in the world, and the top two in the betting before a dart was thrown in Leicester, have justified market confidence to make the semi-finals at the Mattioli Arena, where Humphries will take on Danny Noppert and Littler meets Jonny Clayton in the last four.

BoyleSports World Grand Prix semi-final preview

Luke Humphries has reached the last two World Grand Prix finals, winning the title in 2023 before losing to Mike De Decker last year, and Cool Hand can make his third title-decider in a row with a convincing victory over Danny Noppert.

The world number one has not had to be at his vintage best to the make the last four but a three-dart average of 95.58 in a 3-1 win over Krzysztof Ratajski in the last 16 shows that he has the class to go through the gears when required.

Humphries was more controlled in his 3-1 quarter-final victory over Cameron Menzies but he still averaged 91.50, while two of Noppert’s three wins, against Jermaine Wattimena and an injury-troubled Stephen Bunting, have seen him prevail with an average under 86.

Noppert found his A game in his quarter-final win over Gary Anderson, winning 3-1 with an average of 91.91, but he was let off by some slack finishing from the Scot and Humphries is unlikely to be as forgiving.

Cool Hand has been more wasteful than he would have liked on the outer ring, but his scoring power always gives him multiple opportunities to close out sets and the best-of-nine format means he has longer to get into the groove.

Humphries, world champion in 2024, is a master of set play and has won four of his last five meetings with Noppert, who was beaten 4-1 by Jonny Clayton in his maiden semi-final appearance at the World Grand Prix in 2021.

The possibility of another all-Luke final is on the cards but Littler may have to dig deeper than Humphries when he takes on Clayton.

The tungsten prodigy has won the World Championship, UK Open and World Matchplay in 2025 and is 4-6 to add the World Grand Prix to his growing list of accolades, although Clayton won’t be an easy man to pass.

Littler produced a breathtaking 105.58 average in a 2-0 win over Gian van Veen in round one but he has regressed in his last two games, averaging 91.86 against De Decker before limping over the line against Gerwyn Price in the quarters.

The world number two came through that topsy-turvy last-eight duel in a deciding leg and averaged only 84.68 despite firing in ten maximums.

Littler was just ten from 30 on his finishing doubles against Price and he was only nine from 23 against De Decker, suggesting Clayton may get chances if he can stay within touching distance of the Nuke.

The Welshman has been a model of consistency this season, finishing runner-up at the World Masters before semi-final efforts at the UK Open and the World Matchplay, so he is used to pressurised situations and has dropped only one set in recording wins over Andrew Gilding, Luke Woodhouse and Dirk van Duijvenbode.

Set play provides Clayton with an opportunity to make this more competitive than if the match was contested over legs, and taking Littler to edge to a 5-3 success is the value play.
