BoyleSports World Grand Prix final

Dave Chisnall's record against Michael van Gerwen is an absolute horror story, but charged-up Chizzy could push Mighty Mike all the way in the final of the BoyleSports World Grand Prix at the CityWest Convention Centre in Dublin.

MVG's gurning face has haunted Chisnall for years. He hasn't beaten the Dutchman on TV since the quarter-finals of this tournament in 2013, when Chizzy went on a run to the final only to be smashed 6-0 by Phil Taylor.

Their overall head-to-head has Van Gerwen up 47-9, while he leads 16-1 in TV meetings and has won all four of their clashes this year.

But the most disturbing statistic is possibly yet to come - MVG leads Chizzy 46-0 in total televised PDC titles won.

The Dutch darting dynamo makes devouring titles look as easy as gobbling stroopwafels, but it's a different story for Chizzy, who has never won a major PDC tournament.

But before you go lumping on an MVG whitewash beware, Chisnall has been a man on a mission this week and the master of maximums has the heavy-scoring game to put reigning champ Van Gerwen under serious pressure.

Chizzy has come through a much tougher half of the draw and he could have gone out in the first round with Gerwyn Price throwing for the match, but Chisnall kept his cool to send Price packing in the deciding leg and set the tone for the rest of the week.

Stephen Bunting, Nathan Aspinall and Glen Durrant have since fallen to Chizzy's accurate arrers with the St Helens thrower becoming more confident with every step and winning those matches by an aggregate score of ten sets to two.

Chizzy leads MVG 18-10 in tournament 180s (he's 4-7 to get the most maximums in the final), 10-6 on ton-plus checkouts and has a fractionally higher checkout percentage, with Van Gerwen only just shading him on the tournament average.

Darts is all about confidence, and a fast start by MVG could see Chizzy crumble, but with most people expecting the Dutch juggernaut to cruise to an easy victory all the pressure is off Chisnall.

Backing him with a 1.5-set handicap start means punters will collect the booty if it goes to a deciding set, and Chizzy has what it takes to push van Gerwen down to the wire.
