Match betting preview

Simon Whitlock and Ryan Joyce have the privilege of kicking off the Betfred World Matchplay and it could pay to side with the Aussie.

Whitlock is averaging 95.24 on the PDC Pro Tour this term and that shows he can still produce some pretty decent numbers despite his advancing years.

The Wizard didn’t make much progress in the recent cluster of Summer Series events. However, Whitlock did manage a win over Chris Dobey with a 100.2 average and then went on to put in a 104.5 in a defeat to Nathan Aspinall in Event 12.

There was nothing wrong with those performances and the Aussie may well have had a decent run had he not bumped into an inspired Asp.

Joyce’s Pro Tour numbers aren’t far off of Whitlock’s but the Wizard looks more likely to reproduce them in these conditions.

In terms of three-dart averages Krzysztof Ratajski is one of the top ten performers on the Pro Tour this season and he could make light work of Jermaine Wattimena.

The Polish Eagle took off in the recent Summer Series Event Nine and put in some incredible numbers. Ratajski had a three-dart score of 107.2 against Krzysztof Kciuk and 108.7 against Ryan Searle in that competition. It took an unbelievable effort from world champion Peter Wright to end Ratajski’s run last week and although Wattimena is a capable performer, he’s a long way off the level of Snakebite.

The Machine Gun is a quickfire thrower, as his nickname suggests, and the Dutchman looks unlikely to enjoy Ratajski’s more considered approach.
